This board is for Windows and Microsoft updates: the monthly security release, the optional preview updates later in the month, out-of-band fixes, and anything that goes wrong along the way. Update talk about anything else is welcome too: WSUS, Intune update rings, third-party patching, Linux packages.

Every month, a megathread. On the second Tuesday, when Microsoft releases its security updates (10 am Pacific, 1 pm Eastern), a thread opens here: "what broke for you?". It stays pinned until the next one replaces it. Quick reports, good or bad, go there.

A thread of its own is better for a problem that needs back-and-forth: a failed install, a boot loop, an app that stopped working after an update.

Before you post about a failed update:

Note the KB number and the error code. Both are in Settings > Windows Update > Update history, or run
Get-HotFix
in PowerShell for what did install.

Check Windows release health: Microsoft lists the known issues it has confirmed, often with a workaround.

Look the error code up in the error code library.

Then post: the KB, the OS and build, the error code, and what you have tried.
