Accessibility

KEH-TECH should be usable by everyone, including people who use a screen reader, a keyboard instead of a mouse, screen magnification, voice control, or custom colors. Our target is the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, Level AA, the standard referenced by the Americans with Disabilities Act regulations and by New York State’s accessibility policy.

What we have done

  • Text and controls are checked for color contrast in both the light and the dark theme.
  • Every page can be used with a keyboard alone. There is a “Skip to content” link, and the item that has focus is always clearly outlined.
  • Pages use headings, landmarks and labels so assistive technology can describe and navigate them.
  • The layout adapts to small screens and to text enlarged up to 200% without losing content.
  • Animation is switched off for visitors whose device is set to reduce motion.
  • A dark theme is available from the button at the top of every page, and follows your device setting by default.
  • New pages and features are tested with automated tools and by hand before they go live.

Known limitations

Parts of the site are produced by third-party software that we do not fully control. We fix what we can and report the rest to the authors.

  • Forum. Some controls in the forum software, such as the post editor toolbar, may not be fully described to screen readers.
  • Spam check. Sign-up, login and contact forms use Google reCAPTCHA. If it gets in your way, email us and we will help you directly.
  • Member content. Forum posts are written by members, who may add images without a text description.
