AADSTS50055: the password has expired
Likely causes
- The password reached the organization's expiry age.
- The user ignored earlier expiry warnings.
How to fix it
- Sign in through a browser at
https://myaccount.microsoft.comor another Microsoft 365 page. The user is usually offered a password change right there. - If they can’t change it, use self-service password reset, or ask an admin to reset it.
- Update the new password on phones and mail apps so they don’t cause a lockout.
- Hybrid: if the error is AADSTS50144 instead, the on-premises Active Directory password expired. Change it on a domain-joined PC or through your password reset tool.
